In this immersive figurative sculpture workshop, students will explore both fundamental and advanced clay modeling principles over a 30 hour period.
From a live model, they will sculpt a 24 inch figure in water based clay, focusing on gesture, volume, proportions, anatomy, and likeness.
Students will discover the unique rhythms of the human form and engage in guided demonstrations by the instructor, who will also facilitate discussions about the visual and conceptual language of sculpture.
Individual and group critiques will enhance students’ learning as principles from ancient Greek and 19th century sculpture are integrated into the classroom dialogue. Additionally, the phenomenological approach that underscores this workshop will allow them to explore the profound nature of form through the medium of clay.
