Instructor: Jiajun Lu (nickname JJ) has an MFA from Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan. JJ has numerous public sculptures in the US, Japan, and China. He currently teaches sculpture at Contra Costa College and works on private and public commissions at his studio in Richmond. See more about JJ and his sculpture at atelierjun.us.
Class Description: The class is open to all levels, beginner to advanced. We’ll learn to sculpt an arm and foot in water clay working from JJ’s demo (no model) that will focus on a planar constructive approach similar to George Bridgman. We’ll work at roughly 3/4 to life size scale. The class structure includes some lectures, demos, and one on one instruction.
Covid protocol: students must be up to date with their Covid-19 vaccinations.
Materials: Students are responsible to bring their own water clay, armature, and tools. There are options to buy clay and an armature through dogtown, more details on materials here.
Class payment: non-members $110 (paypal – pay friends and family option, venmo, or check), $114 (credit card). Tuition includes instruction fees only, students are responsible for materials. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to pay (indicate your payment method: paypal, venmo, credit card, or check, so we can provide details on how to pay), and if you have any questions about the class. All payments are non-refundable unless the workshop is cancelled, and credit card fees from paypal ($4) are not refundable even if the class is cancelled. If you need to drop the class, we may be able to provide a refund if there’s a student from the waiting list to replace you.
